Dear Friends,

There are few diseases that have so directly impacted my life as heart disease. Now -- I know that the commonly held notion is that heart disease is something that primarily afflicts men. The truth of the matter is that according to the American Heart Association --> "Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!" And, perhaps more importantly, most of these deaths are entirely preventable. 

In my own family, I have felt the real implications of heart disease in two women that mean the world to me. My wife Amira and my mother Halima have both experienced the impacts of this disease in very different ways. 

It is for the aforementioned people that have given me so much support and inspiration, that I have accepted the honor of serving as a Co-Chair of the AHA 'Go Red for Women' Luncheon, alongside my two amigas Kimarie Stratos from Memorial Healthcare System and Cori Flam Meltzer from CFM Mediation.

Through Go Red, we have a unique opportunity that could potentially save the lives of many families, right here in South Florida. Last year marked the 12th anniversary of Go Red for Women and while we have made significant strides in impacting women’s health, there is still a lot to be done.  Sadly, heart disease continues to rule our nation as the leading cause of death and disability regardless of gender, race or heritage. This is where I need your support!!
